The Use of Surveillance to Control People in George Orwel’s 1984 Essay Sample

This essay does a great job of highlighting the various ways in which the government in George Orwell’s 1984 controls the populace. The use of telescreens, the Thought Police, and the training of children to spy on their parents are all methods used by the government to keep people in line. The essay also does a good job of highlighting the fear that people in the novel live in. People are afraid to talk about their thoughts, express their emotions, or have relationships because they are afraid of being caught and punished by the government. Overall, this essay provides a good overview of the ways in which the government in 1984 controls the people.
