Analysis of Kate Chopin’s Irony Essay Sample

All of the stories by Kate Chopin contain irony, which is what makes them interesting to read. Irony is often used to create a twist or surprise in the story. In “The Storm”, Chopin includes irony in the way that she hides important facts from the readers, only to reveal them at the end of the story. In “Desiree’s Baby”, Chopin uses irony to discuss death, racism, and heritage. The irony in “Desiree’s Baby” is most evident in the way that Armand is surprised to learn that his child is not fully white. He is also surprised to learn that his ancestors were African. In “The Storm”, Chopin uses irony to discuss the hidden desires of Calixt
