Overall, I thought that the essay was very interesting. I liked how the author used the word “hunger” in multiple ways, and it really helped to emphasize McCandless’ motivations for his adventure. I also thought that it was interesting how McCandless’ journey ended. Although it was not successful in the way that he had originally planned, his death was still a form of success because it allowed him to find the answers to his questions about the world.
Overall, I enjoyed reading Into the Wild and found it to be an interesting look into the life of someone who decided to abandon society and try to live life in a completely different way than what is typically considered the “normal” way of life. Although I did feel that Kraukauer sometimes stumbled in his storytelling, he was still able to make Chris come alive for the reader and show the immense impact Chris had on the people he met, even if those people only met Chris for a brief moment in time.
