In reading Carol Dweck’s book “Mindset” and taking the quizzes, I found that I have a growth mindset, but I also see that I have some remnants of a fixed mindset. I do believe that a growth mindset can be developed with effort and persistence. I also think that having a growth mindset is helpful for both personal reflection and future teaching.

The essay “The Great Depression and The New Deal” by John W. Aldridge is a comprehensive and well-written overview of the events leading up to and following the Great Depression, as well as the New Deal legislation introduced by Franklin D. Roosevelt in an effort to ameliorate the economic conditions.
Aldridge does an excellent job of explaining the complex economic factors that led to the Depression, and he provides clear and concise summaries of the various New Deal programs. However, the essay is somewhat dated, and it does not reflect more recent scholarship on the topic.

The Causes, Effects, and Solutions of School Violence is an article written by Dwyer, K., Osher, D., & Warger, C. The article discusses the early warning signs of school violence and the imminent warning signs. The early warning signs are not a checklist against which to measure individual children and should only be used for identification and referral purposes. The imminent warning signs are a sequence of overt, serious, hostile behaviors or threats that indicate that the child is very close to behaving in a way that is potentially dangerous to himself or herself or others. The article also discusses the action that should be taken when the warning signs indicate that danger is imminent.
The author provides a good overview of the history of Japanese art leading up to the 1333, with a focus on the impact of the introduction of Buddhism on the development of art in the country. The essay is well-researched, and the author’s writing is clear and concise. One minor criticism is that the author could provide a little more information on some of the specific art forms mentioned (e.g., Yamato-e, Emakimono, etc.), but this is a minor point overall. This is a good essay that provides a concise and informative overview of the history of Japanese art.
