The Culture of Fear in 1984, a Novel by George Orwell Essay Sample

Orwell’s classic novel “1984” is a representation of a government controlled society in which fear is the main theme. Citizens are constantly monitored by the government and are afraid to speak out against the rules for fear of punishment. The idea of “Big Brother is watching” is a way to keep the population in line, as they never know when they might be caught and punished. The novel presents a very bleak view of the future, in which a totalitarian government has complete control over the people.
