Facts and Fiction in Krakauer’s Tribute Essay Sample

Krakauer’s book is an interesting blend of factual information and his own conjectures about McCandless’s motivations and thoughts. He does a good job of presenting the information in a way that is easy to follow, and he provides plenty of context for the events that take place. However, his use of fiction to fill in the gaps in the story can be a bit heavy-handed at times, and it can be difficult to tell what is fact and what is Krakauer’s speculation. Overall, Into the Wild is an engrossing read, and it provides a lot of insight into McCandless’s motivations and the risks he took in his quest to find an unbridled, true adventure.
