Language Influence in Mother Tongue by Amy Tan Essay Sample

Overall, I thought that Mother Tongue was an excellent essay that did a great job of exploring the impact of language on both individuals and families. I found Tan’s personal anecdotes to be particularly insightful and thought-provoking, and I appreciated the way that she used them to illustrate her points. I also thought that her discussion of the various English dialects adjusted by immigrants was fascinating, and I appreciated the way that she showed how these dialects can both enrich and complicate our understanding of language.
